In the initial picture, the water is covering just the central area, up to the limits of the internal strings (Lines) that form a small pentagon and a star, which is also inside another larger pentagon.

Now, we begin to remove, one by one, the strings that form the star and we do it counterclockwise.

We observe that the water is spreading and occupying the areas that have lost part of their initial limits.

Next, we remove the next line of the star (We also do this counterclockwise).

And so forth...

The water continues to spread and occupy the new areas without the initial boundaries.
