How to Play Chess

By Omar Castaño P.

First of all, Chess is a recreational and competitive game played between two players. At the start, each player controls sixteen pieces (One controlling the white pieces and the other one, controlling the black pieces).

The goal of the game is to CHECKMATE the opponent's king, whereby the king is under immediate attack (in "check") and there is no way to remove it from attack on the next move.

This game is played on a square chequered chessboard with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight square with alternated colors (generally Black and White).

The corner-square of the chessboard on the RIGHT of each player is always the WHITE SQUARE.
